What it is to me !

    I believe that ones relationship to language should be one of importance. I say this because in some ways language is everything, you may not think it is but nevertheless it is important. For me language is important because it is being able to communicate with other people and one way of how we are able to express ourselves. Language is history, the future and so much more. To know how language was first spoken and to see how much it as evolved. To see what it has become today is one of the many lessons that there is to know about language. 
    My native language is English but growing up my mother always made sure to speak to me in Spanish so that as I got older I would be able to also speak it. Being Puerto Rican and just being able to know Spanish was not my mothers only reason for teaching me but because she wanted me to be able to communicate with my family whenever I went to visit. This is why I feel that language is important to everyone in some way. For some of us it's not just being able to say hi or bye but our roots and culture from which we came from.
    For me the language that I speak in school differs to the language that I speak with my friends and even at home. The language that I sometimes speak with my friends is one that people would call slang, growing up in the neighborhood that I did affected the way that me and my friends spoke to each other when we was out in the streets.

    I learned English in school and Spanish from my family growing up as a child. I do believe that knowing how to use language makes a difference to how you get along in the world. I say this because one example is knowing how to use language can make a difference to how you speak to people out in the streets, school, and job interviews ext. I would hope that someone will not go into a job interview speaking slang. Being able to know how to use language will make all the difference of weather you get the job or not. I'm pretty sure that the person who is giving the interview are looking for people who know how to speak well and is able to communicate well with workers and or costumers .
